Boost fight against teenage pregnancies, FMG - Ruto tells Woman Reps

President William Ruto has urged Woman Representatives to stay put and fully play their role in parliament.

Speaking on Thursday, Ruto told the legislators to be flag bearers in promoting local manufacturers when acquiring sanitary towels.

“I also urge you to step up and help in the fight against teenage pregnancies and female genital mutilation,” Ruto said.

President Ruto on Thursday at State House hosted all 47 Women Rep.

Press Secretary to the Presidential Communication Service (PCS) Emmanuel Talam told the Star that the meeting started shortly after noon.

Going further, Ruto pledged to support the Woman Rep and the government will champion women's agenda.

Last month, Ruto has reaffirmed the Kenya Kwanza government’s commitment towards eradicating female genital mutilation (FGM) by end of his tenure.

Ruto said that FGM cases in his tenure will be eliminated.

Out of eight adolescent girls, one is either pregnant or has delivered, a report has indicated.

The report released by National Council for Population and Development shows that Nairobi county leads in teen pregnancy among adolescents aged 10-14 years.

This is based on statistics between January and October 2021.
