A construction worker died after a falling stone hit him at a site in Spring Valley area, Nairobi.

Brian Outa Otemi, 20, was in the company of other workers at the site on Tuesday when a block fell from the fourth floor of the building and hit him.

He was rushed to the nearby Avenue Hospital and referred to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officials said the stone hit him in the head. Such incidents have been on the rise in the city amid calls to tame the trend.

Police and officials from the county government and National Construction Authority are investigating the incidents.

Despite the rate being high, no action has been taken on the contractors in the recent past amid calls for adherence to the law to protect the victims.

Meanwhile, a man collapsed and died on the roadside in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The victim identified as Vincent Oginga, 27, was walking along Al-Amin Road when he collapsed and died, police and witnesses said.

A medical team that responded to the scene confirmed that the victim had died and upon search of his pockets, an empty transparent lab sample tin and hospital treatment note dated March 28 were found.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
