Neil Wigan appointed UK ambassador to Kenya, replaces Marriot

Wigan worked as a UK ambassador to Somalia between 2013-2015.

The British High Commission has appointed Neil Wigan as the new United Kingdom ambassador to Kenya.

Wigan will replace Jane Marriot who has served in the capacity for four years now. 

Marriot's tenure lapses in June when Wigan will take over.

" Neil Wigan OBE has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya in succession to Jane Marriott who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment," the commission said. 

 

The British High Commission said Wigan will take up his appointment in July 2023.

Wigan's full name is Desmond Patrick Neil Wigan. He is married with 2 children.

He took to Twitter to acknowledge his appointment. 

"My family and I are delighted to return to Kenya in July, as I take up the post of UK High Commissioner. It is an exciting time for our partnership, with Kenya playing a vital role in the region. I look forward to seeing you soon - natarajia kuonana nanyi hivi karibuni!" Wigan said. 

Wigan worked as a UK ambassador to Somalia between 2013-2015. 

He also served as the UK  ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo between 2010 to 2013. 

Before his appointment, Wigan held the position of UK ambassador to Israel.
