Police are investigating an incident in which a bar owner was shot and injured in a confrontation at Makutano, Tharaka Nithi.

A group of police officers had gone for night patrol when they came across a bar operating beyond stipulated hours.

The incident happened Monday morning.

The officers went to Kismart Bar and ordered the management to close it.

In the process, a confrontation broke out between the officers and the owner who was furious accusing the officers of harassment.

Police claim the man was armed with a panga and tried to close the bar with few revelers inside.

This prompted one of the officers to shoot, injuring him in the stomach.

The victim identified as Patrick Murithi, 33, was rushed to Nkubu hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

The officer involved in the shooting was disarmed and his rifle was kept as an exhibit as the probe into the shooting goes on.

In Lagdera, Garissa County, police are investigating an incident in which a lorry driver escaped death after being shot at along Garbatulla-Benane Road.

The driver told police he found a roadblock erected using logs as he drove towards Dobley. Those manning the roadblock tried to stop him using spotlights but he drove past the same amid shooting from behind.

He escaped unhurt and drove to Benane police station where he reported the Monday morning incident.

A team visited the scene but did not find those who had erected the roadblock.

Police say they are investigating the matter and that no arrest had been made.
