Party of Democratic Unity national chairman Isaiah Gichu has called for political tolerance and constructive dialogue between the government and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking to Star at the party offices on Tuesday, Gichu emphasised the importance of unity and peace across the country, urging both Raila and President William Ruto to come together and preach peace.

He said that the country might fail to achieve the realisation of Vision 2030 if the fight between the two leaders continues noting that electorates are suffering under the political differences which might result in post-election violence.

“The country is polarised on political differences between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio and something must be done to rescue the situation," he said.

Gichu called on the government to work on modalities for the sake of peace and to accommodate opposition's concerns for constructive dialogue.

"We must have an Opposition that can hold the government of the day to account. Multipartyism is good for a democratic government, Gichu said urging Church leaders to intervene and rescue the situation.

Speaking on Sunday at Thika Stadium, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua warned Raila of an attempt to destabilise the country through calls for demonstrations.

Gachagua noted that the Kenya Kwanza government will use constitutional means to address all opposition concerns but will not engage in a handshake.

“We will not allow Raila Odinga and his allies to destabilise peace across the country, he should use constitutional means rather than engaging in destruction of public property and destabilising peace,” Gachagua said.

Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria echoed Gachagua's sentiments and revealed plans to hold a protest in Gatundu.

Kuria said that the meeting will take place outside the Kenyatta family homestead in Ichaweri village in Gatundu South, Kiambu, and it may happen as soon as next week.

He said that the retired President is allegedly behind Azimio leader Raila Odinga's protests and wants to destabilise President Ruto's government by sponsoring opposition-driven upheavals.

In a recent interview with the Star, Kikuyu council of Elders chairman Wachira Kiago called on the leaders from Mt Kenya to speak in one voice and embrace each other.

Wachira noted that the political era is gone and leaders should now come together and preach peace and unity.
