There was drama in Bungoma town when a suspect who was escaping sought refuge in the local Assistant County Commissioner’s house.
The suspect was escaping from police after an earlier incident of housebreaking.
A police officer left his workstation and went to his house on May 24 and found the suspect leaving there with his cooking gas and a hoofer, which he had packed in a sack.
The officer stays in the servant quarter of the main house of the ACC in Bungoma.
The officer handcuffed the suspect before he ran away. An alarm was then raised.
According to police, the suspect ran away as police officers who were manning a neigbouring County Commissioner’s residence fired into the air.
The suspect ran into the house of the ACC Bungoma South Christine Wafula and locked himself therein.
The officers managed to arrest the suspect namely Joseph Simiyu alias "Mono', who had been recently released from Bungoma GK prison.
Nobody was injured during the incident, police said.
Meanwhile, police are looking for a gang that robbed two people in Waithaka area, Nairobi.
The gang of two was armed with a pistol during the Thursday incident.
They fired in the air and robbed a woman of one mobile phone and a handbag with cash Sh200.
They also robbed her brother of a mobile phone before they escaped.
Cases of armed robberies have been on the rise amid calls for increased patrols to address the trend.
Meanwhile, the body of a 75-year-old man was found in his house in Maji Mazuri area, Kasarani, Nairobi.
The man lived alone in a two-roomed house at the time the body was discovered on May 24 afternoon.
Neighbours told police he was found lying on the floor of his house.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
