Representatives from Global Fund will on Thursday appear before the Senate Committee on Health to shed light on Sh3.7 billion procurement process it flagged as irregular.

Kenya was put at risk of losing Sh3.7 billion worth of anti-malaria nets from the fund due to a bungled process by the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency.

The fund had floated tenders for the supply of 10.2 million long-lasting polyethylene and polyester nets to be distributed from November to July next year as part of a mass campaign.

Global Fund is a worldwide movement to defeat HIV, TB and malaria and ensure a healthier, safer, and more equitable future for all.

The fund cancelled Kemsa's procurement process which seemed flawed in favour of a bidder who did not meet mandatory requirements.

Also scheduled to appear before the committee on Thursday is Public Procurement Regulatory Authority director general Patrick Kanyugo Wanjuki.

The board and chief executive officer of Kemsa have also been lined up to appear before lawmakers on the same day.

Former PS Josephine Mburu told the committee on Tuesday Kemsa is not under the State Department she led (Public Health and Professional Standards) but under Medical Services which was headed by Peter Tum.

Mburu told the committee she was not involved in the procurement of the nets.

“l thank President Ruto for allowing me to serve and l would not challenge him. But l want the truth to come out on whether l had a role to play in this scandal so that Kenyans can judge me,” she said.

Suspended Kemsa CEO Terry Ramadhani on the other hand said she is yet to understand why she was edged out.
