Boy missing after crocodile attack in Mandera river

Officials have been searching for the seven-year-old in vain

A seven-year-old boy is missing after he was attacked by a crocodile in Dawa River, Mandera County.

The boy was swimming in the river with other friends on June 14 when the crocodile attacked.

The witnesses said the animal dragged the boy into the waters and he is yet to be found.

A search was conducted in the area in vain. It is suspected the crocodile killed and swallowed Hassan Jamal Mohamed.

Police said the assistance of local divers has been called in efforts to get the crocodile.

Dawa River flows through three major countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, with 81 per cent falling into Ethiopian territory.

And police are investigating an incident in which a two-year-old girl drowned in a pit latrine in Mumbolole village, Kakamega County.

The girl was with her mother when she drowned in the latrine, which also had water inside.

Police were called to the June 14 scene and retrieved the body and took it to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on a farm in Muranga.

The decomposed body was discovered by a farmer who was busy at his farm on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the deceased man was aged about 65 and they are yet to identify him.

The body’s left palm was missing and a carton containing assorted clothes, which had no blood stains was found there.

It is suspected that the deceased might have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Elsewhere in West Pokot, a lorry driver drowned after his truck was swept by raging floods.

Officials said the area had experienced heavy rains and one Charles Kamau Mbugua aged 56 was harvesting sand when the incident happened on June 16.

His lorry was swept downstream Napowoi River where the body was retrieved hours later.
