Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday said leaders who are following the Azimio La Umoja coalition will fall on their own.

The DP who was speaking in Kilifi during the Annual Regional Conference 2023, said the opposition has no government of their own to run and needs no money from anyone.

"Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua have no government of their own, they don't need any money from anybody to run anything. So if you follow them blindly, you will go down on your own," he said.

He added that the President William Ruto-led government needs money to finish projects and deliver its mandates to Kenyans.

"We will not borrow to fund the project in the country, we will finance it by ourselves, through taxes," he said.

The DP was responding to Azimio leaders who have criticised the Finance Bill 2023 that was passed by Parliament on Wednesday.

According to Martha Karua, the 2023-24 Budget is meant to ensure Kenya Kwanza allies live large.

"This kind of dictatorship is new! This budget is selfishly tailored to ensure Ruto’s people live large and eat well. They are getting subsidies to import cooking oil, maize, sugar, rice, among other commodities at the expense of vulnerable Kenyans," Karua said.

"Money for Ruto’s people is hidden in provisions like fertilizer subsidy, National Agricultural and Rural Inclusivity, National Agricultural Value Chain Development, Kenya Cereal Enhancement, Emergency Locust Response and Small Scale Irrigation and Value Addition, among others."

Azimio said what was witnessed with the passing of the Finance Bill is what happens when rogue leaders are in charge.

"Yesterday, we saw what happens when a rogue and uncaring head of the Executive, branch of government, decides that the only thing that matters is his ego, his fantasies and his cronies' agenda," she said.

"We also learnt the hard way that this illegitimate regime can ignore the people, their feelings, their fears, their circumstances, their hopes and aspirations and force its agenda on the people."
