Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has opined that low pay for MCAs might make them easily bribed.

Alai spoke on Friday during an interview with Spice FM.

"It will be easy for a member of the county assembly to be bribed on account of how much he is earning.

"Let not all members of county assembly earn the same salary because some are in cities while others are in risky zones," Alai said.

Alai called for the remuneration grades at the county assembly to be relooked and for a special unit to be formed within the parliamentary service commission.

He said the special unit will ensure that the remuneration grades are harmonised.

Alai said if one MCA goes to oversight the County Executive Committee members who are earning over Sh400, 000, yet the MCA is earning Sh86, 000, the MCA can easily be silenced.

"The CECs will be easily flaunting Sh50,000 or Sh100,000 and those oversight committees will do nothing."

The first time MCA gave a scenario of when an MCA decides to call out the county governor over misuse of funds.

He said a  governor will not take it well.

"The governor will not even sign my salary in such a scenario because he is the CEC finance who has to sign my salary every month and my allowances," he said.
