Migori police have launched investigations after a killer brew left four dead with eight others fighting for their lives in Kubweye village, Kuria West subcounty.

The four were the brewer and a seller who picked the poisoned alcohol from him and two other people.

"They went to drink at night and when they came back they started complaining of poor vision, breathing problems and difficulty in talking," Nancy Chacha, a resident said

"At first we thought it was a normal effect of alcohol before we were alarmed when other drinkers complained of the same."

Kubweye village elder Patel Matiko Nyamohanga said the victims were rushed to two hospitals in Mabera town where the four were pronounced dead on arrival.

“The other eight are still fighting for their lives,” he said.

Kuria West police boss Cleti Kimaiyo said the other eight are in critical condition.

“So far four others have been referred to Migori Referral Hospital as we have launched investigations over the incident,” Kimaiyo said.

Residents Debra Marwa and Chacha Denis decried how the issue of illicit brew had been handled in the area.

They want the government to take stern actions against sellers and brewers of the illicit liquor to help stamp out the vice that has caused deaths in the villages.
