Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged Western Kenya leaders to unite and prioritize agriculture and education in the region to unlock untapped potential.

Mudavadi spoke in Western Kenya on Sunday where he urged the leaders to speak with one voice and create change in the region

He challenged leaders from the region to focus on service delivery under President William Ruto’s government.

“I am calling on my brothers in the political circle, let us walk the talk. Western Kenya has immense potential. We have to empower our people for us to change the fortunes of our region,” Mudavadi said.

He said the Kenya Kwanza government has prioritized agriculture and education as key starters towards achieving the full potential for the region.

The Prime CS said he has witnessed positive progress in several schools and it is a tremendous step in terms of developing learning institutions.

He said the government is living up to its promise and the support it has given to the education sector is immense.

“My office is working with all legislators from the Western region to ensure that education standards for the region are uplifted,” Mudavadi said

“The constituency development fund under the members of parliament should prioritize building infrastructure to modernize our schools.”

He also emphasized that agriculture should be a great opener for the region.

With this, he urged the residents to embrace tea farming, saying the reforms underway will boost the sector to achieve the export potential that Kenya is keen to achieve.

“Kisii and Nyamira have eight tea factories but Western has one yet we are in the same region. Western Kenya counties have a potential for tea growing, let us tap into this agricultural frontier,” he said.

By subsidizing farm and agricultural inputs, he said, the government is working towards supporting farmers to boost food security that will boost the economic stability in the country.

“We are moving towards subsidizing production and we are hopeful that the harvest for this season will change the narrative in terms of food security,” the prime CS said.
