Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has named Enos Njiru Njeru as the new national chairman.

The appointment of Njeru, KTDA says in a notice, takes effect from July 17.

He replaces David Ichoho who is said to have resigned under unclear circumstances.

“The board of KTDA has today appointed Enos Njeru as the national chairman… This follows the resignation of David Ichoho on July 11 through a letter which was received and accepted by the board,” the notice reads in part.

Njeru has been a board member at the agency since July 2021, representing farmers from KTDA zone six.

He is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 15 years of experience in finance management.

The exit of Ichoho comes a week following the conclusion of a national tea summit held in Kericho to come up with reforms to address the issues facing tea farmers in the country.

Deputy President Rigathu Gachagua who convened the meeting challenged KTDA to carry out meaningful reforms for the benefit of the smallholder tea farmer.

Ichoho has since moved to court to stop his ouster alleging he has been forced to resign from office without due process of the law.

In a statement, Njeru has vowed to lead comprehensive tea reforms agenda.

“Our industry is not immune to change, and we must adapt to remain competitive and sustainable. Together, we will chart a course that elevates the tea industry to new heights of prosperity,” he said.
