President William Samoei Ruto is on Wednesday expected to commission a water project in Kericho.

The Sh1.2 billion Kimugu project is jointly undertaken between the county and the national government.

It is among the projects that had earlier been lined up for launch by the head of state during the Mashujaa Day celebrations to be staged in the county on October 20.

"We welcome His Excellency President William Ruto for the grand commissioning of the mega Duka Moja, Kimugu water project on Wednesday, 19, 2023" Governor Erick Mutai said Tuesday in a statement.

The project with a 13-kilometre pipeline is set to produce 13 million litres of water per day.

At least 200,000 households in the three sub-counties of Belgut, Kipkelion East and Ainamoi are set to benefit.

The meeting will happen the same day Azimio leader Raila Odinga has called for mass protests across the country.

But, Ruto has vowed to stop demonstrations at all costs pointing an accusing finger at Raila for employing unconstitutional means to get into the government.

"No demonstration is going to take place on Wednesday. It is not possible, this man (Raila) has brought chaos to this country which has led to many deaths," he stated.

He continued;

"That path that you are taking, I want to assure you that I am going to take you on and I will not allow it to happen."

Meanwhile, Governor Mutai has warned the Opposition against ferrying goons to disrupt businesses at Sondu town on the Kericho-Kisumu border during its demonstrations.

Last week's ethnic unrest which the government said was politically motivated resulted in two fatalities and 15 injuries.

He told Raila to "act responsibly and refrain from exploiting the youth to further his political agenda against the Ruto administration".
