The expected burial for the late John Wesonga turned chaotic on Thursday evening after the body was received at his Matungu home.

The three families affiliated with the late 2nd national vice chairman at Knut were embroiled in bitter wars over which home to lay the teacher to rest.

"According to our culture, he was supposed to be taken round all the three homes he had. But in the evening we heard that there was an alleged court order to stop the burial," a family member who spoke on anonymity said.

On Friday morning, several members converged and laid to rest the deceased at his home in Matungu, Kakamega.

However, for the rest of the day sits and tents remained empty at the Matungu SDA Primary School where the service was to be held.

Dignitaries who had joined the family visited them at the Matungu home.

Wesonga also served as the Director of Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KACWASCO).

The late Wesonga succumbed to colon cancer on July 6.

β€œOn behalf of the National steering, NEC and the entire teaching fraternity, may I convey our heartfelt message of condolence at this trying time,” Knut Secretary General Collins Oyuu said.

The deceased also served as the provincial secretary of the then-western provincial council before he became a member of the National Executive Council.

He was eventually elected to serve as the second vice-national chairman until his demise.
