A 28-year-old woman was shot and killed in an ambush by gunmen along the Kitale-Lodwar highway in Turkana.
Doreen Nekesa was killed as she and her brother Geoffrey Wanjala, 33, rode on a motorcycle to Lodwar to search for a job.
Police said the incident happened on August 4 along the Kainuk-Kakong highway between KWS and Kainuk.
Wanjala was from Kitale heading to Lodwar while carrying his sister Doreen when the incident happened.
According to police, on reaching the said area, they were attacked by five gunmen who shot at them.
The rider sustained gunshot wounds on the right lower limb and upper chest, while the sister was shot in the head and died on the spot.
The gunmen then robbed them of the motorcycle and disappeared with it.
The injured was treated at Kainuk health centre and referred to Lodwar County Hospital for specialized treatment while the deceased body was removed to Kitale hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
Police staged an operation in the area but no arrest was made.
Elsewhere in Iftin area, Garissa, one Osman Abdi Jire a firewood collector was shot dead by unknown gunmen in an attack.
The deceased was found lying in his house with several gunshots.
Police said they established that four unknown men armed with rifles went to his house and ordered him out before they shot him dead.
According to police, four spent cartridges believed to be used by both AK47 and G3 rifles were recovered at the scene.
The body was removed to the Garissa mortuary pending autopsy.
Police said they are yet to know the motive of the attack. A hunt on the gunmen is ongoing, police said of the August 5 incident.
