Thugs break into Nakuru church, steal valuables

An unknown number of thieves broke into a church in Nakuru and stole an assortment of valuables.

Police said the incident happened at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Mlimani at the weekend.

A catechist at the church told police he had opened the church on Sunday and found one of the windows open.

Upon checking the priest’s room he found some of the valuables missing.

The items included a chalice, pattern, ciborium, golden cross, pixy, bell, monstrance, aspersorium, treble, and incense bowl.

The thieves also stole a laptop and a holy water bowl.

Police were called to the scene and documented it pending probe.

No arrest has been made so far and police believe the thieves knew what they wanted with a motive.

Last week, a gang of four broke into a Catholic Church in Tala, Kangundo, Machakos and stole a laptop.

The gang went to St. Mary's Catholic Church within Tala armed with crude weapons and gained entry into the church compound by jumping over the fence.

They held hostage the night watchman and managed to break into the priest's office, where they stole therein one laptop.

They then grabbed the guard’s mobile phone and escaped.

According to police, during the incident, the watchman sustained two cuts on his head and was rushed to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital for treatment.

Police suspect the gang was after the laptop for a reason.

The motive is under investigation and police have talked to the priest whose laptop was stolen as part of efforts to get the thieves and know more.
