Duale: Military recruitment will be fair, above board

The Ministry of Defence announced new recruitments into KDFs in August and September 2023.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said the forthcoming military recruitment shall be free, fair and above board for all qualified Kenyan youths.

He said the recruitment will paint a national picture by having military officers and service members selected from across the country.

This followed complaints that the marginalised groups may be left out of the exercise.

He cautioned parents against money to secure the slots.

Duale spoke on Wednesday when he appeared before the plenary session of the National Assembly at Parliament.

The Cabinet Secretary attended the Parliamentary Session to respond to questions from MPs on issues about the programmes the Ministry had rolled out within its mandate across the country and beyond Kenya’s borders.

The Ministry of Defence announced new recruitments into Kenya Defence Forces in August and September 2023.

KDF seeks to hire General Service Officer Cadets (Regular and Graduate degree holders), Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/women, and Defence Forces Constables.

All interested Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/women vacancies candidates must apply online.

The deadline for applications for these categories is August 20.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified through the print media between September 17 to 24.

The other group will be recruited at various centres between August 28 and September 8.

During the session, Duale affirmed that KDF is continuously adjusting its posture and strategy by establishing new military installations and strengthening the already existing ones.

This will ease the response to security incidents, enhancing deterrence capacity and creating conducive conditions for socio-economic development.

The CS informed the House of the continued commitment of the KDF to promote regional peace, security, stability and development that informs their active presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo under the East African Community Regional Force and the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in DRC.

He enumerated various milestones the Regional Force has realized in DRC among them being the bringing back of calm, repulsing the M23 militia and opening the Main Supply Routes and return of internally displaced persons to their homes.

He also thanked the House for approving the Peace Support Operations Fund, which shall transform Kenya’s capacity for diplomacy through greater contribution towards international peace and security.

About compensation for soldiers injured in the line of duty, the CS said KDF has a very robust compensation mechanism- Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme which gives soldiers (both serving and retired) access to world-class healthcare and compensation.
