Ruto to attend funeral of MP Kathambi's husband in Njoro

President William Ruto will on Tuesday attend the funeral of Njoro MP Charity Kathambi's husband, David Chekwony.

Chepkwony died on August 3 after a short illness.

The ceremony will be held at Kimugul Primary School grounds, Njoro in Nakuru.

Also expected at the event is Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who served alongside Kathambi in the 12th Parliament.

Kathambi is a second-term member of the National Assembly and the first female MP for Njoro constituency.

Following his death, leaders led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula have continued to mourn with her.

Wetang'ula said Chepkwony's death left him in shock, praying for God's comfort to the family and friends.

"I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Family of Charity Kathambi Chepkwonyi for the passing of her husband, and to the entire Njoro constituency during these profoundly challenging moments. Please accept my condolences on behalf of the National Assembly members and our staff," he said.

Gachagua visited the family on Sunday where he expressed his sympathies following the loss.

"Chepkwony will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and residents of Njoro Constituency for his role in shaping leadership and community development," he said.

Molo MP Kuria Kimani said: "Pole sana jirani on the loss of your husband Mr Chepkwony. It has not been an easy time for you and your family. But God’s grace is and will be sufficient."
