Parliament has summoned Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and Kenya Power Chief Executive Office Joseph Siror over Friday's countrywide power outage.
The two will on Thursday next week appear before the National Assembly's Energy committee chaired by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka following over the blackout.
A dispatch from the committee's secretariat asked the two to prepare extensively to explain what exactly caused the power outage.
The power outage affected most parts of the country including Nairobi, Rift Valley,Central and Western regions.
"The chairman has directed that we summon the CS Energy together with the CEO KPLC on Thursday to explain the cause of the current nationwide black out which has paralysed the nation,including the International Airport," reads the communication in part.
The committee said it was rather embarrassing for the country's international airport-Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA)- to be in total darkness..
Mwala's committee said responsible authorities should provide a convincing explanation over the incident.
The committee is on a retreat in Mombasa to write its report on the high cost of electricity in the country.
The committee pushed the appearance of Chrichir and Siror to Thursday to enable it complete its task in Mombasa.
