The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has taken a swipe at Azimio leaders for organising and taking part in protests.
Speaking during an interdenominational service in Bungoma on Sunday, Atwoli said President William Ruto had won the 2022 August elections despite the Azimio brigade having the support of the former President.
He said those who are holding protests have no offices to go back to after the election period elapsed, urging those who hold office to focus on their work.
“Mambo ya maandamano ni ya watu hawana ofisi. Wale watu walikuwa kwa Azimio akina Otuoma, Francis Atwoli, Ottichilo and the rest ambao walikuwa na ofisi wakati elections zilikwisha tulirudi kwa ofisi,” he said.
“Wale wako kwa mambo ya maandamao; Kalonzo Musyoka hana ofisi, Martha Karua hana ofisi, honourable Wamalwa ndugu yetu hapa hana ofisi, Raila mwenyewe hana ofisi. Yule anaitwa Oparanya from my home has no office kwa hivyo maandamano muwachie watu wasio na ofisi. Wale walio na ofisi warudi kwa ofisi wafanye kazi,” he added.
This is translated loosely to say we have left protests for people without office, when the elections period ended those with offices like myself went back to our offices, and those in demonstrations like Kalonzo, Karua, Wamalwa, Oparanya and Raila have no offices.
