Lawyer Miguna Miguna vowed to oppose a planned move to amend the constitution by a lobby led by Prof PLO Lumumba.

"I will oppose this retrogressive move even if I do so alone," Miguna wrote on his social media page.

The amendment push comes after Kenya marked the 13th anniversary of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 constitution on Sunday.

The constitution was promulgated on August 27, 2010, in a ceremony presided over by Kenya's third President Mwai Kibaki.

“The constitution jealously and magnanimously guarantees us an audience to initiate amendments directly as a people through the popular initiative route,” Lumumba said on Sunday.

The lobby has put forward seven areas that require amendment, they include leadership and integrity, national elections, the legislature’s structure  and representation.

The Lumumba-led lobby also wants areas such as the arrangement of the executive, framework of devolution, independent commissions and offices addressed.

This is not the first time a constitutional amendment has been proposed as former President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga's bid to amend it through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) collapsed after the Supreme Court halted the process.

The Supreme Court Judges led by Chief Justice Martha Koome, insisted that an amendment can only be effected through a popular initiative.

The former head of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission said they will commence the amendment push through a signature drive.

The Lumumba-led initiative if it succeeds will mark Kenya's fourth push to amend the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
