Police are investigating an incident in which a man they described as a notorious criminal was stabbed to death in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The 19-year-old was stabbed in a confrontation between two criminal gangs along Third Avenue in Eastleigh.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they were informed the man had been stabbed on Tuesday morning at about 4 am.

They rushed to the scene where his body was found with multiple injuries and rushed to hospital where he succumbed.

He said the deceased had a series of robberies with violence cases pending before the court.

He added they are yet to establish what prompted the confrontation and subsequent stabbing of the man.

“We are investigating those behind the stabbing,” he said.

After the news of his death spread in the area, his friends and relatives went to the hospital seeking to take the body for burial.

This caused tension as the hospital insisted they had to inform the police before releasing it.

Police were called to the scene causing more confrontations that saw the group stone vehicles.

Bungei said several cars including a police Mahindra were damaged in the drama.

Police managed to disperse the group and moved the body to the City Mortuary for autopsy before it was released the following day for burial.

Police say an investigation had been opened into the murder of the teenage boy.
