Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga who is facing charges of planning and organising demonstrations, will today appear before a Makadara magistrate court for his pre-trial.

He was charged with being found with Maasai rungus, bows and arrows among other things.

The charge sheet read that on July 20, 2023, in Kiserian within Kajiado, without reasonable excuse, the three were found in possession of offensive weapons; 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus and three jembe sticks.

The charge sheet said the circumstances raised a reasonable presumption that the said offensive weapons were intended to be used in a manner prejudicial to public order.

Last week on Friday, Njenga was allegedly abducted but later released. Njenga's lawyer Ndegwa Njiru said.

Mackenzie expected back in court

Elsewhere in Malindi, suspected cult leader Paul Mackenzie is expected to be taken back to court after spending 156 days in police and prison custody since his arrest on April 15.

The DPP will this today decide whether they will charge Mackenzie and his co-accused with the deaths of more than 429 people, whose bodies have been exhumed from the now infamous Shakahola Forest.

The numerous times Mackenzie, his wife Rhoda Maweu Wambua and the 27 other co-accused persons have been brought before the Shanzu Court, the prosecution has always asked for an extension of the detention period to complete the probe into the deaths.

Mackenzie and the co-accused are facing at least 12 charges including terrorism, murder, counselling and aiding suicide, abduction, radicalisation, genocide, crimes against humanity, child cruelty, fraud, and money laundering.

However, they are yet to be formally charged.
