MKU founder Simon Gicharu appointed KICD board chairman

President William Ruto has appointed Mount Kenya University founder Dr Simon Gicharu as the Chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

Ruto appointed him to serve for three years replacing Prof Elishiba Njambi Kimani.

Gicharu was the chairperson of the Water Service Regulatory Board (WSRB) appointed by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

He had chaired the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (Rerec) earlier.

Others appointed include Naomi Shaban, as the Chairperson of the Tobacco Control Board for three years and Titus Korir to the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) board as the chairperson for three years by the Head of State.

Ruto publicized the changes via a gazette notice released on Friday, October 13.

KICD develops a curriculum using a panel system comprising practising teachers, teacher educators, university lecturers, quality assurance and standards officers and curriculum support officers from the Teachers Service Commission, among others.

KICD is the Successor of the Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) which was established in 1968 by the Education Act, Cap 211, of the laws of Kenya.
