The Ministry of Health has rolled out an electronic community health information system (eCHIS).
The system is a mobile application that supports the management of health services to all 100,000 Community Health Promoters across the country.
The eCHIS launch follows the ministry’s recent revamp of the community health programme with the application aimed at improving the quality of care provided by Community Health Promoters.
This transformative effort aims to digitize, equip, support, and provide salaries for all CHPs across the country.
The goal is to ensure every Kenyan household has access to well-supported CHWs offering essential healthcare services.
“This digital platform addresses a multitude of challenges within the community health system,” Health CS Susan Nakhumicha said.
Nakhumicha was speaking on Tuesday during the ongoing Pre-Mashujaa Day exhibition and conference taking place in Kericho.
“Prior to the introduction of eCHIS, the reliance on manual paper-based data systems resulted in poor data quality, limited accountability, misuse of health data, high healthcare delivery costs, and inefficient data utilization for decision-making,” the CS noted.
The CS together with her team at the Ministry of Health have been pitching camp in Kericho since Monday for the week-long pre-UHC launch health exhibition conference at the Kapkatet Stadium.
The thematic week helps evaluate the milestones made in the health sector as well as deliberate possible interventions and innovations that can aid the health sector and ensure success in the government’s plan for the execution of the Universal Health Coverage programme.
The event serves as a precursor to the grand launch of UHC on Mashujaa Day which will be taking place on Friday, October in Kericho.
The theme for this year's celebrations is Universal Health Care.
One Hundred thousand Community Health Promoters are expected to be unveiled on that day by President William Ruto.
The celebrations started with the UHC week which will run for a week before Mashujaa Day.
