The Kenya National Examinations Council has said the rehearsals for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations are set to start on Thursday, October 19.

This comes as preparations for Form 4 candidates who will sit for their national exams from October 23 to November 24 continue.

In a statement on Wednesday, Knec said the rehearsal date for KCPE and KPSEA is set for Friday, October 27.

Exams for both KCPE and KPSEA will begin on Monday, October 30, and end on Wednesday, November 1.

Knec is expected to engage 1,700 officers to monitor the administration of the exams.

The council said the officers are not only from Knec but also from other institutions within the education sector.

The 2023 KCPE examinations will mark the end of the 8-4-4 system in primary schools.

Over 3.5 million candidates will sit national examinations with KCPE candidates covering the most soaring number ever recorded in the country.

Just under a million will sit KCSE exams this year while 1.4 million will sit KCPE exams. Those registered to sit the inaugural KPSEA are 1.2 million.

During a briefing for the monitoring officers held at the Knec head office at the New Mitihani House on Monday and Tuesday, Basic Education Principal Secretary, Belio Kipsang urged the officers to be professionals and committed to ensuring effective and efficient conduct of the assessments and examinations.

“We play a bigger role than just delivering the examinations, we must also motivate the candidates that this is a process that we all went through and they can also do it successfully,” Kipsang said.

"The PS congratulated Knec for the good work especially last year when the Council transitioned from administering the annual two examinations to the unprecedented five last year as the country stabilised the school calendar after the Covid-19 disruption."

Principal Secretaries from the Ministry of Education alongside the Council and Executive Management of Knec were in attendance.
