At least five people were admitted to hospital with bullet wounds after being shot during a confrontation between police and a wanted suspect.

The victims admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital suffered multiple injuries after their iron sheets houses were hit by stray bullets.

The wanted robbery with violence suspect was shot and killed in the shootout in Githurai area, Nairobi.

Police said Samuel Karui alias Sammy Steppa was wanted for a series of robberies with violence and murder incidences within Kasarani and its environs.

He was confronted in a house that was said to belong to his girlfriend while in the company of his accomplice in the Sunday morning drama.

Police said his accomplice managed to escape although they recovered a revolver pistol.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.

“We will follow the matter. The injured are in stable condition in hospital,” he said.

The suspect’s girlfriend was arrested and placed in police custody for further investigations.

Police said they feared the suspect would injure or kill them as it has happened in past similar situations hence the heavy fire that was heard.

Last month, a police officer was shot and killed while three others were injured in a similar confrontation in the same area.

A suspect was also shot and killed in the drama. He was wanted over a series of robbery incidents, police said.
