What is exempted from declaration at JKIA upon arrival

Kenya Revenue Authority has listed items that are exempted from declaration upon arrival.

In a handbook on Tuesday, KRA said Household effects conditionally included are duty-free. 

This means that certain personal items for your home may be exempt from import taxes or duties, but there are conditions you need to meet for this exemption to apply.

They include; Carpets, paintings, tableware, linens, and similar household furnishings.

Others are; Tools of the trade, professional books, implements, and instruments.

“However, duty is usually waived on personal effects more than one year of age. All vehicles are dutiable,” KRA said.

Kenya Revenue Authority also went further to list items that should not be carried upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

KRA listed fake money, pornographic material /indecent articles, narcotic drugs, and used tyres for light commercial vehicles as being among the items.

Also on the list include; Unworked precious metals and precious stones, arms and ammunition, ivory worked or unworked, spent cartridges and historical artifacts. 

This comes after KRA intercepted Sex toys, guns and viagra at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The Kenya Revenue Customs Department said the items were allegedly ferried into the country between July and October 2023.

The authority listed at least 430 items as restricted with 132 being prohibited. 

The seized goods constituted 339 drones, 7 guns, 18 toy guns, 11 magazines, 8 handcuffs, 24 Walkie talkies, 24 viagra packs.

Others are;  14 sex toys, 58 shisha and shisha apparatus and 60 bleaching creams.
