A 15-year-old was electrocuted in a tragedy as he played with his friends in Mukuru slums, Nairobi.

The body of the minor was found on a footpath by residents in Maasai village long after the electrocution. It was the residents who then reported the incident to the police.

Police said there were no visible injuries detected on the body and that it was suspected that the deceased might have been electrocuted after stepping on a wet live electric wire.

His friend said he stepped on a live naked wire on Tuesday which killed him instantly.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.

Cases of electrocution have been on the rise amid calls for action to stop the trend.

Most of the cases happen in informal settlements and police said they have involved various stakeholders to address the menace.

Officials blame illegal power connections for the incidents.

In Kiambu, a 28-year-old man was electrocuted as he tried to steal dry coffee at a factory.

The incident happened in Kibichoi where dried coffee parchment was kept.

Police said the man’s body was found at the entrance of the facility with a half-full sack of dried coffee that he had picked up.

It was established the man had in November 14 sneaked into the store and picked up the dried coffee and as he left, he touched a naked live wire there.

This electrocuted him. Police were moved to the mortuary pending further probe into the incident.

Elsewhere in Waruku area, Dagoretti, the body of a man, 24, was found dangling in his rental house from the roof rafters.

Police said it had four strands of black aerial cable tied around the neck.

This was one of the three cases of suicide reported. The other incident was reported in the Kathwana area, Meru where a 40-year-old man died by suicide.

In Kathwana, Igambangómbe area, Meru, a two-year-old boy drowned in a man-made dam.

The child was playing with his brothers around the dam when he slipped and drowned in the dam belonging to their neighbour, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary as police said they had launched investigations into the same.

Officials from the local county government visited the scene as part of the probe into the drowning incident.

They said they wanted to establish if the owner had papers to run the dam and what measures he had taken to safeguard it from such incidents.

Owners of swimming pools and such dams are supposed to take measures to ensure their safety at large.
