Kenya National Examination Council CEO David Njeng'ere has been overseeing the marking of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination that was completed early this month.

Njeng'ere on Saturday was at St George's Girls Secondary School, Nairobi, to preside over the closing ceremony for English Composition and Kiswahili Insha marking exercise

The Knec boss commended the teachers for their great work in steering the KCPE exam from its inception to this moment of transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum.

“You are the real heroes of the 8-4-4 system and we appreciate you. We now urge and depend on you to similarly run CBC successfully,” he said.

After the completion of the KCPE exams on November 1, Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang said marking would commence immediately to allow parents to have the results of their children before the festive season.

"Before we break for Christmas, our parents would have known where their children would have been admitted to. This will allow them to mobilise the necessary resources for them to take their children to school," Belio said.

The PS said before the end of January 2024, every learner should be in school.

On marking, Belio said the ministry is adequately resourced to pay the professionals who have been handling the exams.

"We want to assure our examiners that this year, we shall be able to put out all payments that are due to them in good time," he said.
