Traffic flow along the Thika-Garissa road (A3) has been interrupted after a section of the highway was damaged by the ongoing rains.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), in a travel advisory, says the road at Arer, approximately 41kms from Bangali town has been washed away by floods.

"The right-hand side of the road has been washed away following the ongoing flooding, which overwhelmed the adjacent box culverts," the post reads.

According to the agency, motorists should exercise patience, and allow water levels to subside before proceeding with their journey.

The agency has, however, assured the users that its staff are on site to help restore traffic passage through the affected section.

The travel advisory follows yet another one a week ago to motorists using the Garissa-Wajir highway.

This is after the rains cut off some sections of the road.

In a statement, the agency advised motorists trapped between Maalmin road and Jilango to return back to Garissa while travelers between Ohio and Jilango to go back to Modogashe.

“The area is still experiencing enhanced rainfall that might result in recurrence of flood waters which will endanger travellers plying the Garissa-Modogashe-Wajir (A13) road,” the statement reads in part.

The construction works on the damaged section, it however says, have since begun.

“KeNHA has moved construction equipment to Maalmin and initiated construction of diversion roads to enable reinstatement of sections,” it stated.
