A man is in police custody following the death of his son after a violent confrontation over two missing chickens in Shinyalu, Kakamega County.

The 36-year-old father, upset that his son had allegedly stolen two chickens before going missing, was reportedly angered by his son's disappearance for four days.

Upon the son's return on Monday morning, the father allegedly beat him with a piece of wood, causing injuries to his head and back.

The boy was rushed to Shieywe Private Hospital in Khayega, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police who visited the scene observed bloodstains on the body. He is now detained pending further investigation and possible charges.

An elderly woman was burnt to death

An elderly woman was burnt to death in a fire incident in Shianda, Kakamega County.

The woman identified as Syrila Nyaristo Nyangweso, 86 was burnt to death in her kitchen, police said.

Police said preliminary findings had shown the fire was caused by a burning jiko.

The partially burnt body of the woman was found lying beside the jiko with all the clothes she was wearing reduced to ashes but the kitchen was not burnt, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

Investigations are also ongoing to establish if it was arson.
