Sifuna hits at Ruto over National Honours list

The Senator, however, said he respected the President's decision

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has expressed his dissatisfaction after failing to appear on the list of those awarded national honours.

He alleged that it was President William Ruto who denied him that chance.

The Senator, however, said he respected the President's decision, even as other leaders got the recognition. 

"I respect Ruto’s decision denying me the national honours I had been nominated for," he said in an X post. 

Sifuna thanked Parliament for the prior nomination. 

"Congratulations to all those who made it to the list. Happy Jamhuri Day."

The President on Tuesday honoured several  Kenyans in different categories in the awards of order, decorations, and medals. 

Awards are issued by the president upon the advice of a National Honours and Awards Committee in the president's office. 

The list of those honoured in different categories comprises Cabinet Secretaries, Members of Parliament, Senators, Governors, Athletes, Professors,  Artistes and Principal Secretaries among others 

"In recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities, I confer awards and honours to the following persons," Ruto said. 

The Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya award is given in recognition of outstanding or distinguished services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities. 

From the list, Gladys Wanga, Opiyo Wandayi, Stewart Madzayo are among other notable Azimio La Umoja Leaders who have been awarded.
