Cost of living remains the main challenge facing President William Ruto’s administration currently, the latest report by Tifa shows.

The report released Wednesday shows that 39 per cent of Kenyans feel that the government has not yet done enough to lower the cost of living despite being part of its successful 2022 election campaign strategy.

“Its continued rise helps to explain why more Kenyans cited it as the main challenge the government currently faces,” the report reads in part.

Corruption came second at 15 per cent where those aligned with the Opposition were more likely to mention it at 19 per cent compared to 12 per cent of those pro-government.

Debt repayment was also mentioned at eight per cent where it was three times higher at 12 per cent on the pro-government than those in the opposition.

Opposition pressure followed at (4 per cent), the declining value of shilling (3 per cent) and unemployment (2 per cent).

A total of 3,009 respondents were interviewed in the process conducted between November 25 to December 7,  2023.

Those pro-government accounted for 42 percent whereas 39 percent are those in the opposition.

Telephonic interviews were conducted with respondents whose contacts were collected face-to-face.

The interviews were conducted in Kiswahili (mainly) and English. There was a +/- 1.79 % margin of error.

Those interviewed were asked to give their thoughts on the greatest challenge facing the Kenya Kwanza government at the moment.
