Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government is working round the clock to ensure the country is on track.

Speaking during a church service in Karatina on Sunday, Gachagua said so far the country is doing well compared to when they took over when the country was in ‘ICU’.

The DP said he, together with President William Ruto are spending sleepless nights, going to the office as early as 5am to ensure the country gets back on track.

“Rais na mimi hatulali, saa kumi na moja asubuhi tuko kwa ofisi tunatoka saa sita usiku, tunang’ang’ana na unajua sisi ni watu ya bidii, na mimi nakwambia hii kazi kama sisi hatuwezi hakuna mtu mwingine anaweza na hii kenya itarudi kwa barabara pole pole,” he said.

This loosely translates to the President and I don’t sleep, we are always in the office at 5am and leave at midnight, we are struggling and as hardworking individuals, we know Kenya will be back on track slowly.

He said former President late Mwai Kibaki also took over when the country was worse and was criticized in his early years as the President but critics were silenced when he turned round the economy.

“When Kibaki became the President, he found a worse situation than we found, people had huge expectations, I used to see the headlines in 2004 and 2005,” Gachagua said.

“2004, 2005 walikuwa wanapigia Kibaki kelele wakimwambia yeye ni bure, 2006 mambo ikaanza kubadilika watu wakanyamaza. Ikifika 2007 watu wakaamua Kibaki arudi, by the time Kibaki alimaliza miaka yake kumi, he was a hero of this country, the same thing is happening today,” he added.

This is loosely translates to in 2004 and 2005 people were criticizing Kibaki saying he was useless, but when things started changing for good in 2006, the people decided to vote him in for aa second term’.
