DPP wants suspected killer of blogger Sniper detained for 21 days

Says it will allow its office to make the conclusion of investigations

The Director of the Public Prosecutions wants Vincent Murithi Kirimi, alias Supuu 0 Mioro, the main suspect in the murder of Meru blogger Sniper detained for 21 days. 

With the days, the DPP says it will allow its office to make the conclusion of investigations into the murder. 

Mioro on Tuesday appeared before the Kiambu Chief Magistrate. Rulings on his detention will be made on January 8, 2023. 

Further, the DPP has constituted a team of senior prosecutors to guide the investigations, undertaking to ensure that the perpetrators shall be held liable irrespective of their status in society. 

"The DPP has directed the Inspector General of the National Police Service to forward the resultant Murder Inquiry File to his Office within Seven (7) days from the date hereof."

Sniper's cause of death was Asphyxia Secondary to Manual strangulation; this was after a post-mortem was conducted. 

He also had fractured ribs and showed injuries on his head which suggested that he was strangled before being thrown into a river.

Sniper disappeared on December 2, before his body was discovered on December 16.

A section of Kenyans, including senior state officials and institutions, have condemned the murder of Sniper and called for the arrest of those suspected to be behind Sniper's death.

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) Kenya noted that the Kenyan constitution guarantees freedom of expression and the right to seek, receive, and impart information.

Calling for justice for the blogger, it added that every Kenyan has the right to criticise and question those entrusted with power by the people.
