A female juvenile is among the 21 people injured in an accident that occurred along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Machakos county on Saturday.

Athi River South subcounty police commander Jos Mudavadi said the incident happened in the Lukenya area of Athi River subcounty.

"It occurred today at about 2.30 pm along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway at Lukenya area. It involved a minibus," Mudavadi told the Star on Saturday.

Mudavadi stated that the bus was traveling in the general direction of Mombasa when the accident occurred.

"On reaching the location of the accident, the driver lost control of the vehicle, making it rest on its right side," Mudavadi said.

He said that as a result of the accident, 21 passengers sustained slight injuries.

The driver sustained a cut to his left hand.

All the victims were rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital and Itimboni health centre.

Mudavadi said the wreckage was towed to the Kyumbi police station, where it had been impounded awaiting inspection and investigation.
