Mystery as car goes missing at apartment in Athi River

Police said the car tracker was disconnected immediately after it was stolen from the estate

Police in Athi River are investigating an incident where a private car went missing from an apartment in Athi River, Machakos county.

The car according to police officers probing the incident was reportedly stolen from the owner’s parking within the estate at around 3.00 am on Monday.

The incident was reported to Athi River police station as a car theft incident at 4.50 am.

The car was reported under OB NO. 29/22/1/2024

Police said a woman reported that the vehicle that had been earlier parked at the said apartment’s parking by her husband had been stolen.

It’s said that one of the security guards manning the premises called the motor vehicle’s owner at around 4.30 am, an hour after the incident, informing him that his vehicle had left the parking.

The car tracker was disconnected less than 300 metres away, immediately after it was stolen.

“Our officers rushed to the scene immediately we received the report but didn’t see the vehicle. We have circulated details of the said car to all police stations,” a DCI source who declined to be named said.

The source said police were on high alert across the country as they searched for the vehicle.
