Police and officials from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority are investigating an incident in which a robbery with violence suspect collapsed and died in police cells at the Githurai Kimbo police station.

The suspect Samuel Njuguna had been booked pending court appearance when collapsed and died, police said.

Police who were on duty on Saturday evening said they received a complaint from prisoners in custody that one of them had collapsed while in the cell.

They immediately escorted him to Ruiru Level Four Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the City Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Officials from Ipoa were alerted to join the probe into the death.

The police oversight agency is mandated by law to investigate such deaths in police custody.

Elsewhere in Sunton, Kasarani, police are investigating the death of a 45-year-old man in his house.

The body of George Owuori was found lying dead on his bed and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Police are investigating the murder of a minor in Kahawa West area, Nairobi.

The girl is believed to have been stabbed by her ailing mother.

Officers said the suspected assailant had been sickly and investigations into the incident are ongoing to establish the motive.
