Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has expressed his profound happiness on the acquittal of journalist Jacque Maribe in the murder of Monica Kimani.

Itumbi who was part of the family and friends who waited anxiously in the courtroom as the final verdict was delivered said the truth has finally “unveiled its brilliance dispelling the darkness.”

In an emotional post moments after Justice Grace Nzioka finished reading the judgment, Itumbi said Jacque Maribe was a pawn in this unfortunate game of nonsensical play.

“It has been six years, a journey of shadows, where unjust chains sought to bind the spirit of a great friend, a charming personality, a friend I treasure much,” he said.

Itumbi, a close confidant of Maribe, said the forces that joined hands to fix her in the case have now been put to shame even as she promised to support her progress in life.

“My good friend, welcome back to the embrace of freedom. As your friends, our collective hands extend to hold you as you take the next steps,” Itumbi stated.

“You have only one duty, rise from the ashes, for time may be lost, but not the essence of your being.”

Maribu who was the second accused in the case that has been ongoing for over five years was freed for lack of evidence.

According to Justice Nzioka, the charge brought against Maribe was not properly placed.

"It is my considered view that the charge brought against the second accused person was not the proper charge. Was there any offence committed when the second accused person stated the investigating officer at Lang'ata police station which turned out to be not true? I say no more. The office of the DPP knows their mandate,” she said.

"The result is that the prosecution did not adduce enough evidence for this court to find the second accused person guilty of the offence of murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani on the night of September 19, 2018," Justice Nzioka said.

Justice Nzioka, however, said the prosecution has adduced sufficient evidence and has met the threshold.

"The person who killed the deceased did not intend to give her even one minute to survive. It is my considered opinion and finding that the perpetrator intended instant death," she said.

"All this evidence taken leaves a strong conclusion that Irungu murdered Monica Kimani."

Nzioka said the first accused person had a 'know-how on how to kill'.
