To protect your safety, you ought to exercise caution when boarding and disembarking from the train.

From being mindful of platform gaps to watching out for moving parts, here are essential tips, shared by Kenya Railways, to keep in mind to stay safe when boarding and getting off trains.

1. Stand behind the yellow line until the train comes to a complete stop. This is a precautionary measure meant to prevent instances of falling and other accidents.

2. Do not force doors open or attempt to board when the train is leaving the platform. By doing this, you run the risk of suffering injury from moving sections of the train, falling onto the tracks, or becoming stuck between the train and the platform.

3. Allow other passengers to step off the train before you board. This ensures the smooth flow of passenger traffic on the train, preventing incidents of tripping and collision.

4. Station attendants and train crew are there to assist passengers with special needs to board the train.

5. If you are travelling with a pram or a shopping trolley, board at the front carriage so you are clearly visible to the driver.

6. When boarding the train, enter the pram first and lift the back in if the train if the train isn't level with the platform. When exiting the train, step off first then pull the pram towards you.

7. Make use of the grab rails to steady yourself when boarding or alighting to steady yourself. Grab rails are strategically placed along the train's entrance and exit points for this purpose.

8. Prepare to alight before reaching your destination station, but make sure you have something to hold onto to avoid losing balance and stumbling when the train slows down or comes to a stop.

The Kenya Railways asks its passengers to practice these guidelines to ensure that they keep safe when boarding or getting off the trains.
