Ten killed, 11 injured in multiple car crash on Nairobi-Mombasa-Highway

At least ten passengers were killed and 11 others were injured in an accident involving two passenger vehicles and a lorry at the Salama area, on the Mombasa Road highway.

The collision involved two matatus and a trailer.

The deceased included two female juveniles aged between five and eight, a male juvenile aged about five years, three female adults and four male adults.

The accident happened Monday, April 1 at night after the matatus collided head-on with an oncoming lorry, police and witnesses said.

Police said the accident happened at the Mlima Kiu area and involved the matatus that was headed to Nairobi direction.

Witnesses said the lorry driver reportedly failed to keep to his proper traffic lane and also turned right abruptly and without due care and attention hence colliding head-on with the matatus from two local saccos.

The accident also affected a saloon car that was at the scene.

Four passengers were killed on the spot while others succumbed to the injuries in hospital, police said.

4 passengers in different motor vehicles are feared dead while others are seriously injured and have been rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital.

The injured were rushed to the Sultan Hamud Hospital with multiple injuries.

Police and officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority are engaged in a campaign to address the menace on the roads.

More than 1, 000 people have lost their lives in road accidents since January this year.

Tens of others are nursing wounds in various places after the accidents.

This would give an indication at least 30 people die daily in accidents, officials said.

This has left many families negatively affected.

Such accidents have negative effects on families at large.
