Two military officers who died in Elgeyo Marakwet chopper crash to be laid to rest

Two military officers who died in a chopper crash alongside Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla will be laid to rest today.

The two, Colonel Duncan Keitany and Major George Magondu will be buried in their respective rural homes.

According to a schedule released by the Kenya Defence Forces on Wednesday, Magondu who was a pilot will be buried at his Karemeno home in Kieni, Nyeri.

The funeral service for Keitany, who was in charge of operations at Defence headquarters, was also set for Saturday (April 27) at Saos village, Eldana Ravine in Baringo.

The funeral services, KDF said, are also being guided by the wishes of the fallen soldiers and their families.

“Officers and service members have been assigned to support the families during this phase of mourning,” KDF said in a notice.

Other two officers who also perished in the crash, were laid to rest this week.

Senior Sergeant John Mureithi also from Kirinyaga was laid to rest on Friday at his Kirimunge home in the Kanyeki location.

Mureithi was an Air technician and the Moi Airbase.

Lieutenant Colonel David Sawe will be buried at his Kapkorio home, Sarora location in Nandi on April 30.

Sawe was an officer in charge of works maintenance at the Defence headquarters, infrastructure department.

Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi who was a security attached to the CDF will laid to rest on May 3 at his Ndiwo home, West Alego in Siaya.

The burial of Captain Hillary Litali who was the Aide-de-Camp to late Ogolla has been set for May 11 at Ndalu scheme in Tongaren, Bungoma.
