The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and Kenya Airports Authority have partnered with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics to launch the Aviation Satellite Account project.

The initiative aims to comprehensively measure and understand the economic contributions of civil aviation within Kenya and provide vital insights into its impact on the nation's economic development.

Stakeholders in the industry met in Nairobi Tuesday to discuss the project.

Officials said the ASA project marks a significant step towards enhancing the understanding and measurement of the aviation sector's economic significance.

"By adopting globally recognised methodologies, we aim to bridge existing gaps in economic reporting and provide accurate data to inform policy and investment decisions,” KCAA said.

The project seeks to provide comprehensive data to assess the impact of aviation on various industries within Kenya and assist policymakers and investors in making informed decisions related to resource allocation and infrastructure development.

It will also quantify the overall employment attributable to the civil aviation industry, advocating for investment in human capital development.

“Our primary objective is to raise awareness about the ASA project, garner support from key stakeholders and influence policy and investment decisions within the aviation sector.”

KAA officials said by working together, they can maximise the project's impact and ensure its findings benefit all stakeholders.

Among those who graced the stakeholder engagement session were KAA acting MD, Henry Ogoye, KCAA DG, Emile Arao, and KNBS chairman, Stephen Wainaina.
