Names of nominees to the 11-member committee that will probe the charges levelled against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi have been tabled in Parliament.

The nominees were picked according to the numerical strength of parties in the House.

Kenya Kwanza, which is the majority side, submitted six names, Azimio four while Jubilee one.

The development follows the resolution of the House Thursday to pass the Special Motion for the dismissal of Linturi as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development.

A total of 149 members voted in favour of the motion, 36 rejected it while three members abstained.

"Pursuant to the provisions of Article 152(7)(a) and Standing Order 66(5)(b), this House approves the appointment of the following members to the Select Committee to investigate the grounds contained in the resolution of the House,” the Order paper reads.

Those from Kenya Kwanza are Naomi Waqo (Marsabit woman rep), Samuel Chepkonga (Ainabkoi), George Murungara (Tharaka), Jane Maina (Kirinyaga woman rep) Moses Injendi (Malava) and Kassim Tandaza (Matuga).

Those from Azimio are Robert Mbui (Kathiani), TJ Kajwang (Ruaraka), Catherine Omanyo (Busia woman rep) and Yusuf Farah (Wajir West).Rachael Nyamai (Kitutu South) represents Jubilee party.

Following the impeachment of the CS during the morning sitting, Speaker Moses Wetang'ula directed the parliamentary groups to submit the names.

"I direct that the names must be submitted to me not later than 1.45 pm," he ordered.

In nominating the names, the Speaker called on the parties to factor in regional and gender rules.

The names will now be subjected to a vote where the members may either approve the list as it is or drop some names.

Once fully constituted, the committee will be required to report back to the House within 10 days.

However, the House is set to proceed on a month-long recess beginning Friday.
