Police recover 6 guns, 100 bullets in Meru and Laikipia operations

Police have recovered six guns in separate operations in Meru, Nairobi and Laikipia counties.

The weapons include two G3 rifles, two Carbine AK47 rifles, one AK47 rifle and a mini Berretta.

The team also recovered 100 bullets in the operation that started on Sunday.

Another Scorpion rifle stolen from a police officer in Nairobi was recovered from a police fence in Kasarani.

The latest recovery was made in Mutuati, Meru when police raided the house of a suspect known as Ayub Kimaithi.

The officers recovered the first G3 rifle with an improvised sling and magazine loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition and two separate bullets inside the four-roomed house.

A search within the compound saw them recover a the second G3 rifle and Carbine AK47 with fixed bayonet and wooden butt wrapped in a sack.

Seven pangas, a jungle shirt, a police raincoat and a metal spear were also recovered in the operation. The suspect escaped.

In Doldol, Laikipia county, a robbery with violence suspect led the police to Mukogodo forest where he had hidden a rifle with 53 bullets.

Police recovered a Carbine AK47 rifle with 53 rounds of 7.62× 39mm calibre of ammunition stashed in a sack inside a tree trunk.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a suspect who escaped and left behind an AK47 rifle and bale of bhang valued at Sh100,000 in Mutuati, Meru county.

The weapon and drugs were found at the suspect's residence by detectives from DCI's Anti-Narcotics Unit.

Police are also pursuing another suspect, Geoffrey Thuranira, who escaped from his house in Murunya village, Meru county.

He jumped over a perimeter wall and disappeared into a banana plantation.

Detectives recovered an AK47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition from his house.

They also recovered a bale of bhang suspected to be from Ethiopia.

Thuranira’s wife, who was found with a four-month-old child, was detained for questioning.

Meanwhile, another firearm stolen from a female police officer in Kasarani in February was on Sunday recovered ar Githurai police post's gate.

Police said the Scorpion firearm, was stolen after the constable and her colleague were attacked during a night patrol in Kiwanjani, Githurai 44.

It was recovered with 23 bullets.

The officer and her colleague were attacked by three armed men.

After inspection on Sunday, it was established that the firearm belonged to the female officer.

It was subjected to ballistic analysis and found that it had not been used to commit any crime.

No arrest has been made in connection with the incident.

The matter is still under investigation and the police are yet to establish the motive of the recovery.
