A suspected motor vehicle vandal has been arrested in Kiamumbi, Kiambu County.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in a statement on Thursday said the man aged 24, was arrested in a sting operation conducted in the area.

According to the DCI report, the suspect has allegedly been giving residents sleepless nights by scaling perimeter fences before vandalising vehicles parked within the area.

This had forced the residents to either leave their vehicles in areas presumed to be safer far away or to spend extra cash on watchmen to guard their cars.

"Strategically positioning themselves at various points, troops in Kiamumbi led by the OCS braved night-long drizzles, until 3.40 am when the lone man was spotted scaling the wall of a homestead," the DCI said.

Moments later, the man re-emerged carrying the front grid and headlight of a Toyota Harrier.

"He was netted and marched to the station. Having been interrogated at length, crucial leads to accomplices and market for the stolen parts have been obtained," the DCI said.

Further investigations are ongoing, police said.
