Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya on Friday presided over the launch of Southern Rangelands Climate Resilience project in Narok.

The Strengthening Forest Management for Improved Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Resilience in the Southern Rangelands of Kenya project took place in Mosiro, Narok County.

"The 4-year project worth Usd5 million was conceived under the broad Dryland Sustainable Landscapes Impact Programme (DSL-IP) and is financed by the 7th Cycle of the Global Environment Facility (GEF-7)," the ministry said through their Facebook.

The ministry noted that the project will be implemented in Kajiado and Narok Counties.

This will be done by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

"It aims at developing a functioning and resilient drylands forest landscape that supports livelihoods including food security through integrated natural management," the ministry said.

Tuya who was accompanied by Environment and Climate Change PS Festus Ng’eno.

Also present were the National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND) CEO Samson Toniok, NEMA DG Mamo Boru Mamo and Narok County Deputy Governor Kiprono Tamalinye.
