At least eight injured in Mombasa anti-Finance Bill protests

At least eight people have sustained injuries in Mombasa as protests against the Finance Bill 2024 escalated.

Police were forced to lob teargas canisters as they engaged protestors along State House Road in Mombasa who had attempted to access the Mombasa State Lodge.

One of the injured protesters had a rubber bullet wound in the head with another getting hit in the thigh.

Red Cross officers intervened to help the injured even as police continued to engage the youth in running battles.

"Even if they cripple me, I will not tire from fighting for our country. We are tired of this government," Albert Ofisi, one of the injured protesters said.

Thousands of youth turned out for the anti-Finance Bill demos in Mombasa on Tuesday morning.

Transport was paralysed along major roads with businesses shutting down as protesters took to the streets.
